The original box extendable staffs were calibrated with figures as seen by the naked eye but this presented an inverted image through the instrument. Later, staffs were produced with inverted print so to present the correct image which confused the situation for the experienced operator. Eventually instruments were designed to correct the inverted image issue.
Quickset levels have a spherical adjuster rather than the standard 3 screw design.
