About

These were manufactured from 1934 to 1942
Serial No.4J949SP.
Fitted with a 4cylinder, 4.1 litre, 35 HP petrol engine.
the ‘J’ model Caterpillar R2 was the petrol engined spark-ignition version of the D2. Two versions of the R2 were available: the 6J (50 in. wide-gauge) and the 4J (40 in. standard-gauge). This 4J model has an ‘SP’ suffix to its serial number which shows that it was a ‘special purpose’ build with a least one item of non-standard equipment.
The R2 was not produced in great numbers and is rare in America. Much of the production was imported into the UK to those farmers who were reluctant to change over to diesel.
