Reg No CET 678.
Fitted with a 10 HP “flat 4” side valve Jowett petrol engine, somewhat of a rarity. The Post War Machines were fitted with Austin 10 engines for no other reason than availability.
Production commenced in 1932 at Bristol, then Bradford and finally post war at Earby. This model was succeeded in 1947 by the Bristol 20.
Dating Bristol tractors is routinely done by considering engine type, track design, radiator height and wheel dish.
Applying those criteria this tractor dates it between 1938 and 1942. Other dating info, a Tax Disc from 1946, (ET being for Rotherham) and in 1932 the Registration Plate format changed from 2 letters and 4 numbers to 3 letters and 3 numbers.
The F category (Agricultural Tractor) still exists today.
Whilst having independent steering brakes the tiller mechanism prevents the brakes being applied simultaneously.
In common with the Ransomes MG series of tractors the drive sprockets are at the front, making it capable of ascending gradients of 72° without somersaulting backwards.
Sourced from Shelley, Huddersfield in the late 1980’s.
