Hydraulic, screw and ratchet by Lake and Elliot, Duff Norton, Simplex and some particularly old examples which are probably of Great Western Railway origin, dating from the late 19th / early 20th century.
The thrust bearings in the GWR jacks are a fascinating example of Blacksmith Engineering with brass rollers, separated and spaced by forged and fitted steel spacers.

Up until the 1980’s most heavy trucks were supplied with a Spare Wheel and a Lake and Elliot Bottle Jack.
