Chassis No.17670
Date 1964
When plating and testing regulations were introduced in 1960, many of the standard machiney carriers, (the corrrect description for what what we term low loaders), were modified to change their regulatory classification from “construction and use” to “special types”, by simply welding an angle iron along each side of the bed.
This is not a standard 4 in line scammell machinery trailer, it is 9feet 6inches wide, the maximum width permitted without authorisation (known as a movement order).
In addition, sometime in it’s life the neck has been extended to suit more modern tractor units.
We carried out a further modification by adding a spacer between the neck and the 5th wheel pin to raise the bent trailer deck to give a safe road surface clearance.
